Eoin Morgan announces England retirement
The limited-overs captain of England for men, Eoin Morgan, has announced his departure from international cricket. In both white-ball formats, he leaves as England’s leading run scorer, player with the most appearances, and the only one to have guided the country to an ODI World Cup victory.
After a protracted time in which he battled with form and injury, Morgan’s declaration had been anticipated. He will continue to compete at the domestic level, leading London Spirit in this summer’s Hundred.
Morgan led England 126 times in ODIs and 72 times in T20Is since being named Alastair Cook’s replacement in 2015. Prior to directing the 50-over World Cup victory in 2019, he led the team to the World T20 final in 2016.
Ireland initially capped Morgan before changing sides in 2009. In addition to playing 16 Tests between 2010 and 2012 and 340 limited-overs internationals for England, Morgan scored two hundreds.
In an ECB release, Morgan stated, “After considerable thought and consideration, I am here to announce my retirement from international cricket with immediate effect.” “It hasn’t been a simple choice to end what has without a doubt been the most fun and fulfilling chapter of my career, but I think the time is right to do so, both for me personally and for both of the England white-ball teams I have led up to this point.
“From the time I first competed internationally with Ireland to the time I won the World Cup in 2019, I never lost sight of the importance of family support for any international athlete. Thank you for your unwavering support during both the good and more difficult periods of my career, Mom and Dad, Tara, and our family all around the world. This amazing experience would not have been possible without you all.
“I must also express my gratitude to my teammates, coaches, supporters, and the unsung heroes that helped me succeed during my career. I am incredibly proud of what I have accomplished as a player and captain, but the memories I have had along the road with some of the best people I know are what I will treasure and remember the most.
“I’ve had the good fortune to be a part of two World Cup-winning teams, but I think England’s white-ball sides have a better future than ever. We are stronger, more capable, and deeper than ever before. I am quite excited to observe and look forward to it.
“I will continue to enjoy playing at a domestic level while I can, regardless of what lies ahead for me. I’m incredibly excited to participate in and serve as captain of London Spirit in this year’s second The Hundred.
“On behalf of the ECB and everyone involved in cricket, I’d want to thank Eoin Morgan for his great commitment to the game,” said Rob Key, managing director of England men’s cricket.
“It will be incorrect to believe that Eoin’s legacy was limited to his team’s World Cup victory in 2019; it is much more than that.
He has transformed the way the game has been played, as with all great players and leaders, and he has changed the way a whole generation and generations to follow will play this style of the game. For many years to come, his impact on the game will be felt.
He is without a doubt the best leader I have ever observed. I wish him the best of luck in his future endeavours.

In the thrilling encounter, Shaheen clinched his 100th wicket in only his 51st match, dismissing Tigers’ opening batter Tanzid Hasan Tamim. The left-arm fast bowler displayed exceptional skill as he struck Tamim on the pads, prompting the on-field umpire to raise his finger. Despite Tamim’s referral to the third umpire using the Decision Review System (DRS), the replays confirmed the ball crashing into the stumps, upholding the on-field decision. Shaheen Shah Afridi not only secured this feat in record time but also outshone the accomplishments of esteemed bowlers preceding him. He surpassed the record of the fastest pacer, previously held by Mitchell Starc, who attained the milestone in August 2016 during an ODI against Sri Lanka at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

Moreover, Shaheen shattered the long-standing record held by Saqlain Mushtaq, becoming the fastest Pakistani bowler to claim 100 wickets in ODIs. Saqlain had set this record on May 12, 1997, during an ODI against Sri Lanka in Gwalior.
