Bumrah to miss Sri Lanka ODIs, questionable for Australia Test

Published

Jasprit Bumrah

Jasprit Bumrah’s return to play for India will be put off even more because he won’t be used in the ODI series against Sri Lanka after all. We found out that Bumrah might need another month to get ready for games after he had another setback. This makes it unlikely that he will be able to play in the first Test against Australia, which starts on February 9 in Nagpur.

“Bumrah, who was due to join the team in Guwahati before the ODI series, would require some more time to build bowling resilience,” the BCCI stated in a statement regarding Bumrah’s withdrawal from the ODI series against Sri Lanka. “This choice was made as a precaution.”

Since September of last year, Bumrah has been out of action because of a stress reaction in his back. He has been getting better at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, which is run by the BCCI. He was not on India’s original ODI team against Sri Lanka, which was announced on December 27. On January 3, he was added to the team for the three-match series.

The BCCI said that Bumrah was added to the series late because “the pacer has been through rehabilitation and has been deemed fit by the NCA.” “He will soon join the ODI team for Team India.”

When India’s limited-overs squads were announced on December 27, We said that Bumrah was ready to play, but the selectors didn’t want to rush him back because his back injury flared up again during the T20Is India played at home against Australia last year. Bumrah missed the T20 World Cup in 2022, which was held in Australia. India lost to England in the semi-finals of that tournament.

Before making his international comeback, the plan was for Bumrah to do match-simulation workloads at the NCA. It is thought that he passed this test in Bengaluru. But when he did the same work for two days in a row in Mumbai, he felt his side get stiff. Bumrah will now get some rest and physical therapy with the goal of being ready to join India’s preparation camp for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy match against Australia on February 1. He will almost certainly miss the ODI and T20I series against New Zealand that starts on January 18.

The Indian team management is still hopeful that Bumrah will be ready for the Tests against Australia. This is a very important series for both teams, as they are among the favorites to make it to the World Test Championship final in June. Since the one-off Test against England in Birmingham last July, several key players, including captain Rohit Sharma, all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, and Bumrah, have not played in a Test.

India’s squad for Sri Lanka ODIs: Rohit Sharma (capt), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul (wk), Ishan Kishan (wk), Hardik Pandya (vice-capt), Washington Sundar, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, Umran Malik, Arshdeep Singh.
