BCCI Sets Women’s IPL Franchise Base Price At INR 400 Crore
According to reports, the decision about the base fee for the Women’s Indian Premier League franchise has been decided by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). According to a report that was distributed by News18, the board has decided that the starting price for a franchise in the Women’s Indian Premier League will be INR 400 crore (USD 50m approx.)
The much-anticipated beginning of the Women’s Indian Premier League (IPL) is scheduled for March 2023, and it is anticipated that five clubs would compete in the premier event. The Board of Control for Cricket in India has not yet disclosed the exact starting time and location for the competition (BCCI).
Reports suggest, on the other hand, that the Women’s IPL will get underway after the conclusion of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in 2023 and prior to the beginning of the Men’s IPL in 2023.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India came to the conclusion that the base price should be set at INR 400 crore after factoring in the price of the most expensive Indian Premier League franchise that had been sold in 2007-08.
The Mumbai franchise was the most expensive team in the league to be sold when it was purchased by Reliance Industries Ltd. (RIL) for a total of $111.9 million (approximately Rs 446 crore) at a rate of INR 40 / dollar.
“The benchmark had to be set somewhere and the BCCI had been gathering a bit of market intelligence on this, keeping in mind the demand and market interest,” those in the know of developments said, as quoted by News18.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India anticipates that the Women’s Indian Premier League franchise will be sold for between INR 1,000 and 1,500 crore, or potentially more, depending on the level of demand that the auction generates after the tender paperwork is made available. The overall goal of the BCCI may be to generate somewhere between 6000 and 8000 crore Indian Rupees from the sale of Women’s IPL franchises.
“The winning franchise will pay the ownership fees to the BCCI over a period of five years in equal instalments and continue to own the property for perpetuity, like in the men’s IPL,” the source said.
Earlier, during an interview with News18 in Kolkata, Harmanpreet Kaur, the captain of the India Women’s National Cricket Team, was questioned about the influence of the Women’s Indian Premier League on the players. In response, she said:
“The women’s IPL is something we are looking forward to. It will be a good experience, especially for the domestic players who are good but were not getting the chance to play at the international level.
“This is a great platform for them and if they perform well, they will definitely get picked for the national side. They are also going to share the dressing room with overseas players and when you play with them, your competence goes high as well. You’re definitely going to learn great things from them.”
